  • Coriander leaves - 1 bunch (cleaned and chopped)
  • Basmati rice - 2 cups
  • Green chillies - 2 to 3
  • Small onions - 4 to 5
  • Garlic - 1 pod (optional)
  • Tamarind pulp - 1 tsp
  • Jeera - 1tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Sunflower or any cooking oil - 1 tbsp
  • Gingili oil - 1/2 tbsp

How to Make Kothamalli Rice

  • Soak rice in water for 15 minutes.
  • Pressure cook rice with 4 cups water till al dente.
  • Meanwhile, grind together coriander, green chilli, onion, garlic, salt and tamarind pulp.
  • Heat sunflower oil.
  • Splutter jeera seeds.
  • Add the ground mixture and saute till the raw smell reduces.
  • When you get a nice aroma switch off the stove.
  • In a wide plate spread the rice, add gingili oil.
  • Then, add the ground mixture and mix uniformly.
  • Garnish it with fresh coriander chopped or grated carrot.
