Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Kovakkai ( Tindora ), chopped
  • 4 - Red Chillies
  • 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp - Channa dal
  • 1 tsp - Urad dal
  • 1 - Small piece of tamarind
  • 2 tbsp - Coconut (Grated)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 - Onion
  • Coriander leaves, chopped- 1/4 cup
  • 2 pods - Garlic
  • 1/4 tsp(Optional) - Mustard seeds.

How to Make Kovakkai Thogaiyal

  • Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan and saute the curry leaves, channa dal, urad dal, red chilli, tamarind until brown. Now add the cumin seeds and remove from heat. Let it cool.
  • In the pan, add the kovakkai and cook it on a medium flame for 7 - 8 mins.
  • Let it cool and grind it along with the roasted dal and the coconut. Mix it well.
  • Then add the chopped onions and coriander leaves and grind coarsely.
  • Add a little water while grinding.
  • Serve with hot rice.
