Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup - toor dal
  • 3 - green chillies
  • 3 - tbsp grated copra
  • 1 - tomato
  • 1 - onion
  • 1/2 tsp -garlic-ginger paste
  • 1 tsp - garam-masala powder
  • 2 - sprigs curry leaves
  • Asafoetida -a pinch
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 2 tbsp - coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Mirchi-Daal

  • Boil toor dal with chopped onion and tomatoes in a pressure cooker for 3 whistles.
  • Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds, add curry leaves, a pinch asafoetida, ginger-garlic paste and fry for 5 mins.
  • Then add grated copra and fry till it becomes light brown.
  • Add a pinch of turmeric powder and add 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.
  • Then add the boiled tuvar daal with garam-masala and salt to taste and let it boil for 10-15 mins again.
  • Serve hot.
