  • Omam- 1 tsp
  • Tamarind- a small gooseberry shaped ball
  • Tomato- 1
  • Green chilli- 1
  • Mustard- 1/2 tsp
  • Ghee- 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida- 1/2 tsp
  • Rasam powder- 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves- 1 sprig
  • Coriander leaves- a few

How to Make Omam Rasam

  • Soak tamarind in water and extract the juice.
  • In a vessel add tamarind juice, salt, chopped tomato, rasam powder and asafoetida.
  • Boil till raw smell goes. Dry roast omam and powder it.
  • Add it to the boiling rasam.
  • Temper mustard and curry leaves in ghee and add it to the rasam.
  • Lastly garnish with coriander leaves to the rasam and serve it hot with steamed rice.
