  • Par boiled rice (idli rice) - 1.5 cups.
  • Toor Dal - 1/2 cup.
  • Channa Dal - 1/2 cup.
  • Urad dal - 1/4 cup.
  • Red Chillies - 4.
  • green Chillies - 2.
  • Hing - A little bit.

How to Make Plain Adai

  • Soak all the ingredients except hing in water for about 2 hours.
  • Now drain some water and grind ingredients little by little into a coarse, chunky paste.
  • Add hing and mix every thing well. Add salt.
  • If the batter is too thick dilute it accordingly.
  • Heat a tava evenly. Ladle mixture in the centre and spread evenly to the four corners. Keep in mind it should be thick and not as thin as dosa.
  • Pour oil around the edges. When one side is done, turn other.
  • Serve it with butter and jaggery.
