Ingredients

  • 2 cups - raw rice
  • 1 cup - urad dal
  • 1 cup - pottukadalai/fried gram
  • 150 g - Dalda or butter
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • A pinch hing
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Plain Murukku

  • Soak the rice for one hour. Drain the water and allow the rice to dry on a cloth for half an hour.
  • Grind the rice in a blender.
  • Fry the urad dal in a kadai for 5 mins till the raw smell disappears.
  • Grind it with pottukadalai.
  • Mix the flours with butter, hing, cumin seeds, salt and water to make a dough (like chapatti).
  • Heat oil in the kadai.
  • Use a presser to make the murukku and fry in the oil.
