Ingredients

  • 2 - medium-sized ridge gourd
  • 1 - onion
  • 1 lb - prawns
  • 1/2 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp- dhaniya powder
  • 1/4 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 4-5 tsp - coconut paste/milk
  • 1-2 tsp - oil
  • salt
  • For seasoning:
  • 1 tsp - mustard
  • 1 tsp - urad dal
  • curry leaves

How to Make Ridge Gourd with Prawns

  • Peel the ridge gourd and cut it into small pieces.
  • Pressure cook it for about a whistle with 1/2 cup of water. You can also microwave it.
  • Wash the prawns thoroughly, add some turmeric and salt to it and keep it aside.
  • Heat the oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and urad dal. After the mustard pops, add the onions to it and fry it till becomes soft and translucent.
  • Now wash the prawns once again with water and dry it well to drain all the water.
  • Add it to the onions and fry well till the aroma is released.
  • Now add the cooked ridge gourd, chilli powder, dhaniya powder, salt, 1/2 cup of water. Stir well and close it with a lid.
  • Open the lid after 3 minutes and add the coconut milk to it. Stir it well for about 5 minutes and turn off the stove.
  • Garnish with coriander Leaves and serve it with hot rice or chapattis.
