Ingredients

  • 250 ml - Tomato Puree
  • Thick milk of half a coconut (about 150 ml)
  • Seasoning:
  • 2 Pinches - Asafoetida
  • 1 tsp - Whole cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • Spices:
  • 1 tsp - Cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Red chilli powder
  • A chunk of jaggery
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil as per the requirement

How to Make Special Tomato Saar

  • Heat some oil in a deep vessel.
  • Season the oil with asafoetida and the mustard seeds.
  • When the mustard seeds begin to crackle, add cumin seeds and the turmeric powder.
  • Now, immediately add the puree before the turmeric powder burns out.
  • Keep the mixture on a medium flame.
  • Now add the coconut milk, cumin powder, jaggery and lastly add the chilli powder.
  • Serve hot with plain rice or jeera rice.
