Ingredients

  • 2 cups - whole wheat grains
  • 1 cup - tamarind extract
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - urad dal
  • 1 tsp - channa dal
  • 1/2 tsp - asafoetida powder
  • 1/4 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 3 - dry red chillies
  • Few - curry leaves
  • 4 tbsp - gingili oil
  • Few - peanuts
  • Salt - to taste
  • To grind:
  • 1 tsp - coriander seeds
  • 1/4 tsp - fenugreek seeds
  • 2 - dry red chillies

How to Make Whole Wheat Pulihora

  • Dry roast the ingredients listed under 'To grind' and finely powder; keep aside.
  • Heat the gingili oil and fry the mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, asafoetida powder and dry red chillies until they turn brown.
  • Add the peanuts and turmeric powder, and fry until the peanuts are brown.
  • Add the tamarind extract, curry leaves and with salt, and bring to a boil.
  • Cook until the oil separates and remove from heat.
  • Boil the whole wheat grains in salted water until the grains turns soft.
  • Drain the excess water.
  • Spread the cooked whole wheat in a flat plate, add tamarind paste and spice powder as per your taste, and mix well.
  • Add salt if required.
  • Let the pulihora sit for at least an hour before serving.
