This is Shubha here.I live in Massachusetts USA.Thanks to all the contributors, we get to taste many new delicacies. Each one of them have been absolutely tasty. Now let me take a chance to introduce you with one of my mother's best recipes. This is called as Dhoodh pitla and it is my family's favourite. Hope you all like it too! .

Dhoodh Pitla

Ingredients:

Raw Rice - 2 tsps
Urad dal - 2 tsps
Pepper - 1/2  tsp
Coriander - abt a 1/4 bunch
Coconut - 1/2 cup
Green chillies - 4-5
Hing(asafoetida) - a pinch
Chana dal - 1/2 tsp
Groundnuts - 1tsp
Milk - 1 cup
Cabbage or bottle gourd(giya/dhoodhi) - 1 cup (shredded if cabbage or cut into cubes if you use giya)

Method:

  1. Fry rice,urad dal and pepper until urad dal is reddish brown in colour (rice would have become white and           crispy).
  2. Grind the fried ingredients with fresh grated coconut, green chillies, coriander and hing into a smooth paste. Keep this aside.
  3. Make a seasoning of mustard and chana dal add groundnuts and fry them for sometime.
  4. Add the vegetable and 1/2 cup of water and cook it till soft with salt.
  5. Add the ground paste and boil it well.Cool this to room temperature and add the milk and mix it well.
  6. Bring it to boil once again. Serve hot with rice.
