Espresso is a typical Italian style coffee. Definitely stronger, richer and more aromatic than regular instant coffee. Due do its concentrated strength, it is usually served in small demitasse cup (2-1/2 oz. Approx.)
Preparation:
An espresso machine has to be used to prepare this coffee. The machine has a water tank which houses enough water to make the full capacity of coffee. The tank has a very securely fitting lid. The main feature which identifies it is that the water is first brought to a boil, then it is forced through the filter holder containing the ground coffee. The decoction, is forced down at high pressure into the carafe, which is placed directly below the filter. The whole mechanism is usually automatic and many brands and makes of machines are available. One must take care not to pack the coffee too tightly or there may be spillage or blocks. And never overfill the tank. Or boiling water may spill out at high speed.
Each machine has its own dos and don'ts, though the basic procedure is the same.
Note: Use these machines with care, or scalding and burns can easily occur.
