Aamchur is an ingredient used in Indian cooking Also known as:
Mango powder, Amchoor

The spice amchur is made by grinding dried green mango fruits which have been sliced and sun dried. The name comes from am or mango. The powder preserves the acidic, tart and spicy flavour of unripe mangoes. Preparing dried mango powder at home is easy. Peel and slice the unripe mangoes in thin stripes. Rub them with powdered turmeric to avoid the pest attack. Dry them in sun for 5-6 days. Once dry, grind them in mixer into a fine powder.

Commonly used in:
Flavouring curries, chutneys, soups, marinades, dal etc.

Health benefit:
Dried mango powder has a high iron content, so pregnant women and people suffering from anemia are advised to consume it regularly. It combats acidity and improves digestion and is a good source of Vitamin A and Vitamin E.
