Description:
The banana plant is the largest herbaceous flowering plant. Scientific name is Musa Acuminata. A banana is an edible leathery berry. The fruit is variable in size, colour and firmness, but is usually elongated and curved, with soft flesh rich in starch covered with a rind which may be green, yellow, red, purple, or brown when ripe. First cultivated in south east Asia.

Bananas are fried, steamed, made into jams and chips. Raw plantains are used to make curries. They have numerous health benefits.
