Description:
It is an aromatic perennial herb used for culinary and medicinal purposes. While it is indigenous to the Mediterranean, it is cultivated almost everywhere now. The seeds are dried fruits and are oblong in shape and are grooved. They are brown or green in when fresh, but turn slightly grey as they age.
Commonly used in:
Seasoning of dishes. The bulbs are used to garnish and add flavour to salads. It is also used as an after-meal digestive and breath freshner.
Health Benefits:
It is used to treat flatulence, is an effective diuretic, helps increase milk supply of breast feeding mothers.
Fennel is also consumed for improving eye sight.
