Urad dal is native to the Indian subcontinent. It is a regular feature in South Indian food. Urad dal is the white lentil found inside the whole urad bean (black). They are milder in taste than the whole black gram.
Commonly used in:
Idli-dosa batter, vadas and papads
Besides being high in protein, urad dal is rich in fiber which aids the digestion process.
