More Links Sample Menu for 1800 kcal Diet Sample Menu for 2100 kcal Diet There are lot of people who suffer from both diabetics and hypertension. The following sample menus are planned for those who suffer from both these conditions. I had earlier written sample menus for both these conditions separately. Dietary modifications are important component of management of these conditions. Eating rightly depending on ones physical and health conditions can surely reduce his medicine requirement and many times could even get ride off medicine and complications.
A low fat, low sodium and high potassium diet will help to lower high blood pressure and high protein, 40% carbohydrate and 30 - 35 % of the calories as fat is satisfactory for diabetes mellitus. Foods high in saturated fat and cholesterol like liver, meat, organ meat, egg yolk, lobster, crab and prawns also should be avoided in the diet for both these conditions. Poultry with out skin are better than other types of meat. The dietary oils should consist of vegetable oil like corn oil, olive oil, safflower oil and sunflower oil. Fibre rich foods like whole pulses, brown rice, whole wheat bread, chapathi, raw vegetables should be included in the diet. Foods like tomato, watermelon, oranges, sweet lime, apple, bitter gourd, cabbage, spinach, drumstick leaves, bottle gourd, brinjal should be included in the daily diet since they contain low sodium, high potassium, low carbohydrate and high fibre. Avoid baking powder and soda in all the preparations. Avoid salty items like chips, pickles, canned and tinned foodstuff, salted butter and cheese, pappad, sea fish, dried fish, and salted meat. Avoid sugar, glucose, jams, jaggery, honey, sweets, nuts, Horlicks, Bournvita, aerated drinks etc. Avoid fried foods.
