Ingredients

  • 3 - medium sized potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 250 g - horse gram (choliya or hara channa)
  • 2 - Onions
  • 6 Cloves - Garlic
  • 1 - ginger, small piece
  • 3 - Tomatoes
  • 4 - Green chillies
  • 1/4 tsp - Asafoetida
  • 2 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • Spices:
  • 1 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - Red Chilli powder
  • 2 tsp - coriander powder
  • 2 tsp - Garam Masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 tbsp - vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup - chopped Coriander leaves
  • Water as needed
  • How to Make Aloo Choliya (Potato Green Chickpea Curry ):

    1. Wash, peel and roughly chop onions, garlic, ginger tomatoes and chillies.
    2. Heat oil in a pan or pressure cooker add garlic, ginger and onions.
    3. Saute till golden in colour.
    4. Keep the remaining oil in the cooker.
    5. Aloo Choliya:
    6. Take chopped tomatoes and chillies in food processor, drain out the fried onions mixture, add over the tomatoes in the food processor. Grind to form a smooth and fine paste. Keep aside.
    7. To the remaining oil, add asafoetida and cumin seeds. Saute and add potatoes, stir for 5-7 minutes.
    8. Add all spices and salt, mix well.
    9. Add the paste made above, saute till oil comes out from edges.
    10. Add horse gram, give a nice stir and add 1 litre of water. Close the lid and cook for 3 whistles.
    11. Open the lid, cook for another 5 minutes. Remove from heat, add chopped coriander.
    12. Serve hot with chapattis.
