Ingredients

  • 5 - medium size potatoes
  • 3 tbsp - oil, groundnut or any vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 3 pods - garlic, chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 4 or 5 - curry leaves
  • 1 tsp - chilli powder
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • Coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Aloo Jeera Fry

  • Boil the potatoes in a cooker up to four whistles.
  • When the cooker lets out all the steam, take the potatoes and peel the skin.
  • Cube them into big dices.
  • Add salt onto the chopped potatoes.
  • In a wok heat oil.
  • When the oil is hot, add the curry leaves and cumin seeds, allow it to splutter.
  • Add turmeric powder, chilli powder and hing in the oil.
  • Add the potatoes in the kadai, and mix thoroughly.
  • Lower the flame and cover the wok with a lid for 5 minutes.
  • Once potatoes are cooked, serve with accompaniments of your choice.
