  • 4 - Potatoes, Large, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
  • 1 - Onion, medium size, sliced thinly
  • 1 - Chilli, chopped
  • 1 tsp each - Paanch Phoran (optional) (mixture of Fenugreek seed, cumin seed, mustard seed, fennel seed, Kalonji seeds)
  • 1 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - Pepper powder
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil for cooking
  • Paste
  • Grind 1 tbsp poppy seeds, 1 tbsp crushed almonds, 3/4 tbsp mustard, and one Green chilli with a little water
  • Water for cooking
  • How to Make Aloo Sarson Posta:

    1. Heat oil in a kadai or pan
    2. Add 1 tsp of Paanch phoren, allow it to splutter.
    3. Now add green chillies and sliced onion, fry until onion turns tender.
    4. Add the sliced potatoes, and salt, stir and cook covered until potatoes are half cooked.
    5. Now add turmeric powder and pepper powder, cook until turmeric gets fried.
    6. Add the paste, add water to adjust the consistency of the gravy.
    7. Simmer on low heat for 5 minutes.
    8. Turn off the heat once you get a desired consistency for the gravy.
    9. Serve the aloo sarson-posta with hot rice or chapati.
