  • 4 - Potatoes, Large, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
  • 1 - Onion, medium size, sliced thinly
  • 1 - Chilli, chopped
  • 1 tsp each - Paanch Phoran (optional) (mixture of Fenugreek seed, cumin seed, mustard seed, fennel seed, kalonji seeds)
  • 1 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - Pepper powder
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil for cooking
  • Paste
  • Grind 1 tbsp poppy seeds, 1 tbsp crushed almonds, 3/4 tbsp mustard, and one green chilli with a little water
  • Water for cooking

How to Make Aloo Sarson Posta

  • Heat oil in a kadai or pan
  • Add 1 tsp of Paanch phoren, allow it to splutter.
  • Now add green chillies and sliced onion, fry until onion turns tender.
  • Add the sliced potatoes, and salt, stir and cook covered until potatoes are half cooked.
  • Now add turmeric powder and pepper powder, cook until turmeric gets fried.
  • Add the paste, add water to adjust the consistency of the gravy.
  • Simmer on low heat for 5 minutes.
  • Turn off the heat once you get a desired consistency for the gravy.
  • Serve the aloo sarson-posta with hot rice or chapati.
