  • 6 - medium size Potatoes
  • 2 - medium size, ripe Tomatoes
  • 1/2 inch - Ginger
  • 1 - medium size Onion
  • A pinch of Cumin seeds
  • A pinch of Turmeric
  • A pinch of Garam Masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 - Green chillies
  • 4 tbsp - cooking oil
  • How to Make Aloo Tamatar:

    1. Peel the potatoes. Cut them into four pieces each and soak in water.
    2. Slice the onions to thin pieces and mince or grate the ginger.
    3. Cut tomatoes into six pieces each.
    4. Heat oil in a cooker on medium heat and add cumin seeds, onion, ginger, tomatoes, turmeric powder, green chillies and garam masala.
    5. Stir everything till this 'masala' sweats.
    6. Add the potatoes. Mix them well with the masala.
    7. Add one cup water and close the lid of the cooker.
    8. Remove it from heat after two whistles.
    9. Open the cooker after fifteen minutes.
    10. Eat this delectable dish with hot, fresh chappati and curds.
