  • 1 cup - wheat (kuthiya gothambu)
  • 2 - chicken pieces
  • 3 - cinnamon
  • 4 - cloves
  • 1 tsp - butter
  • For garnishing:
  • 1 - onion (sliced)
  • Cashewnuts
  • Raisins
  • Ghee

How to Make Alsa (Hareesa)

  • Soak wheat in water for 7-8 hours.
  • Heat a pressure cooker, add wheat, chicken, cloves, cinnamon, salt, water and cook on a low fire till done.
  • The wheat must be cooked very well.
  • If the hareesa becomes too thick, add a little fresh milk or coconut milk to loosen it.
  • Add butter and mix very well.
  • Serve hot.
  • Heat ghee in a pan, fry onion, cashews, raisins and saute till golden brown and garnish before you serve.
