  • Amaranth stems - 2
  • Fresh jack fruit seeds - 8 to 10
  • Dried red chillies - 3 to 4, broken into pieces
  • Jaggery (or brown sugar) - 2 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • oil - 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Amaranth Stem and Jack Fruit Seeds Palya:

    1. Trim the leaves and scrape the fibrous layer of the stem and cut into 5 cm long pieces.
    2. Peel away the thin white skin of jack fruit seeds and cut the seeds into quarters, along their length.
    3. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds.
    4. When they splutter, add red chillies.
    5. After few seconds, add the stems and seeds.
    6. Add about 1 cup of water.
    7. Cover and simmer gently.
    8. When they are half cooked, add salt and jaggery.
    9. Continue to simmer till they are soft. Serve.
