Ingredients

  • 3 cups - Rice
  • 1 cup - Tamarind
  • 1/4 cup - Channa dal (soaked)
  • 1 tsp - Urad Dal (soaked)
  • 1/4 cup - Peanuts
  • 2 tsp - Turmeric
  • 2 tbsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp - Jeera
  • 1 tsp - Hing
  • 1 small bunch - Curry leaves
  • 5 - Red Chillies
  • 2 - Green chillies
  • 1/2 cup - Oil
  • Salt
  • How to Make Ambat bhat:

    1. Soak tamarind in water and extract a thick juice out of it.
    2. Cook rice, add salt and a little oil and mix it well. Keep it separately.
    3. Now in a frying pan, take tamarind extract, add salt, turmeric and cook until it thickens.
    4. Add this cooked tamarind extract (according to taste) to the rice and mix well.
    5. Heat oil in a pan, add chana dal, green chillies, urad dal, peanuts, red chillies, curry leaves, mustard, jeera and hing, and fry.
    6. As the ingredients turn brown and the mustards start to splutter, mix all these to the prepared rice.
    7. Tamarind Rice is ready.
