Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup - butter
  • 3 tbsp - powdered sugar
  • 2 - egg yolks
  • 1 1/4 cups - sifted flour
  • 1/3 cup - almonds (or cashewnuts), chopped
  • 3 tsp - lemon rind
  • 2 - egg whites
  • 5 - large apples
  • 5 tbsp - sugar
  • 2 tsp - lemon juice
  • 4 - egg whites
  • 1/2 cup - sugar

How to Make Apple Meringue Dessert

  • Beat butter together with powdered sugar and 2 egg yolks till light and fluffy.
  • Add sifted flour, almonds (or cashew nuts), chopped, and 3 tsp. lemon rind. Press into a baking tin.
  • Brush with a lightly beaten egg white.
  • Bake at 180 degree C for 15 mins. Cool.
  • Boiling the apples, skinned and cut into slices, with 5 tbsp. sugar till apples are tender but not broken. Cool.
  • Add 2 tbsps. lemon juice to apples.
  • Arrange apples on baked crust.
  • Beat 4 egg whites till foamy.
  • Beat in 1/2 cup sugar till it reaches meringue consistency (very stiff and glossy).
  • Arrange meringue on apples.
  • Bake at 180 degrees C for 10-15 mins. till golden brown. Serve hot.
