Ingredients

  • 1 cup - besan
  • 1 cup - rice flour
  • 1 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - salt
  • 1/4 tsp - asafoetida
  • 1/2 cup - water (to make dough)
  • 250 ml -oil

How to Make Aruppukottai Seeval

  • In a bowl, mix rice flour, besan, red chilli powder, salt and hing together.
  • Add 1/2 cup of water and make a soft dough. Sprinkle extra 1 - 2 tbsp of water if required to make a soft dough.
  • Heat oil in a deep pan on high heat. Reduce the heat to medium. Place a big seeval kattai over it. The dough is slid up and down on the board and small flakes fall into the oil below.
  • The flat and small ribbon-like pieces are deep fried till they turn golden brown in colour. Drain it out from the oil and place it on a kitchen towel so it absorbs the extra oil.
