Ingredients

  • 1 - big size onion
  • 1 - tomato
  • 2 - green chillies
  • 1.5 tbsp - gram flour/basin flour
  • Tamarind - small lemon size
  • 1 tbsp - sambar powder
  • 1 tbsp - sambar powder
  • Salt for taste
  • For Seasoning:
  • 1 tsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves - few

How to Make Avasara Sambar (Quick Sambar) - Kadalai mavu sambar

  • Soak the tamarind in the water and extract the juice and keep it separately. Cut the onion and tomato.
  • Heat the oil in the pan and add the mustard seeds once the oil gets hot. When the mustard seeds begins to sputter add the curry leaves and the onion.
  • Once the colour of the onion changes to a light brown colour, add the tomato.
  • When the tomato is cooked add the extracted tamarind juice, green chillies (cut length wise) and the sambar powder and salt.
  • Once the mixture starts boiling add the gram/basin flour and add water.
  • Quick (Avasara) sambar is ready to serve for idli/sambar.
