Ingredients

  • 12 - Mackerels
  • 8 - Red dry large chillies
  • 8 - Peppercorns
  • 1" piece - Turmeric
  • 1 tsp - Jeera
  • 1 tbsp - Coriander/Dhania
  • 2 - Large onions
  • 100 gms - Green chillies
  • 1" - Ginger
  • 4 flakes - Garlic
  • 2 tbsp - Vinegar
  • 2 tbsp - Cooking oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup - Coconut milk

How to Make Bafat, Mackerels in Coconut Juice

  • Clean and wash the mackerels and keep them aside.
  • Grind the dry ingredients in the mixer and keep aside.
  • Now grind the fresh ingredients into a paste.
  • Then heat oil in a pan and saute the sliced onions and the masala paste.
  • Now add the dry masala and fry well.
  • Add the fish and let it cook in its own gravy for 15 minutes.
  • Stir gently without breaking the fish.
  • Then add the coconut milk, vinegar and salt to taste.
  • Remove from the stove and let it cool so that the gravy soaks into the fish.
  • Serve with rice.
