Ingredients

  • Horse gram - 1 cup
  • Dry Red Chillies - 5 to 6
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Grated Coconut - 2 cup
  • Tamarind - Lemon size
  • Fresh or canned Bamboo shoots - 2 cup, cut into 4 cm pieces
  • Garlic - 12 flakes
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Bamboo Shoot Koddel:

    1. Wash the horse gram and pressure cook with about 2.5 cup of water for 20 mins.
    2. Meanwhile, roast red chillies and grind with coconut, salt and tamarind to a smooth paste.
    3. When the horse gram is cooked, add the ground paste, bamboo shoots, salt and enough water to form creamy gravy.
    4. Simmer for 5 minutes and remove from fire.
    5. Heat the remaining oil in a small fry pan.
    6. Add garlic cloves and fry till dark brown.
    7. Add them with the oil.
    8. Serve.
