Ingredients

  • Horse gram - 1 cup
  • Dry red chillies - 5 to 6
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Grated coconut - 2 cup
  • Tamarind - lemon size
  • Fresh or canned bamboo shoots - 2 cup, cut into 4 cm pieces
  • Garlic - 12 flakes
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Bamboo Shoot Koddel

  • Wash the horse gram and pressure cook with about 2.5 cup of water for 20 mins.
  • Meanwhile, roast red chillies and grind with coconut, salt and tamarind to a smooth paste.
  • When the horse gram is cooked, add the ground paste, bamboo shoots, salt and enough water to form creamy gravy.
  • Simmer for 5 minutes and remove from fire.
  • Heat the remaining oil in a small fry pan.
  • Add garlic cloves and fry till dark brown.
  • Add them with the oil.
  • Serve.
