Ingredients

  • Moong dal - 1.5 cup
  • Turmeric - a pinch
  • Green chillies - 3 or 4
  • Garlic - 2 pods
  • Coriander leaves - a few sprigs
  • Curry leaves for garnishing
  • Salt to taste
  • Lime juice - 2 tsp
  • For Tadka
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Ghee - 2 tsp
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • How to Make Basic Dal Tadka:

    1. Pressure cook the dal with turmeric dal should not be mushy
    2. Take a non-stick vessel and add ghee, splutter cumin seeds and mustard seeds, now add asafoetida
    3. Then add the green chillies and garlic and fry for a minute
    4. Add the cooked dal and salt and fry for 5 mins
    5. Garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves
    6. Add some lime juice and serve it with rotis/rice.
