Besan ke laddo is undoubtedly one of the most loved comfort foods among Indian desserts. A popular one among recipes for children, it is most commonly made during festivals in India. You can learn how to make these Maharashtrian style Besan ke ladoo at home with our recipe guide. Since the recipe requires slow looking, it is best to take heavy bottomed wok or kadhai to roast the besan - roasted on slow flame till it releases a beautiful aroma. The final mixture is then cooled and hand-moulded into nice, round ladoos. Garnish with nuts or raisins for an authentic touch.

  • 750 g - besan (gram flour)
  • 600 g - Sugar (finely ground)
  • 500 g - Ghee
  • 200 ml - hot Milk
  • 100 g - Raisins
  • 2 tbsp - Cardamom powder
  • How to Make Besan Laddoo (Maharashtrian style):

    1. Lightly heat ghee in a big kadhai or a heavy-bottomed vessel.
    2. When the ghee melts, add the besan.
    3. Roast the besan on medium flame for about 45 minutes, mixing continuously until it turns a shade slightly deeper than golden brown.
    4. Remove from the flame.
    5. Add milk and quickly mix to avoid lumps.
    6. Add sugar, cardamom powder and raisins and mix well.
    7. Allow the mixture to cool completely.
    8. Divide the mixture into equal portions and make small laddoos.
