  • 1 can - black beans
  • 1/4 cup - chopped Onion
  • Garlic (optional)
  • dash of chilli powder
  • dash of salt, pepper
  • bread crumbs
  • cooking oil (not olive)
  • 1/2 cup - water
  • How to Make Black bean Cakes:

    1. Drain and rinse the beans.
    2. Heat some oil and cook the onions until soft.
    3. Add black beans, water, chillies powder, salt, and pepper.
    4. Cook, stirring frequently, and mash beans with a potato masher, until beans turn into a thick paste.
    5. Consistency should be dense - lumpy mashed potatoes). Let it cool.
    6. Form into small cakes and roll in bread crumbs.
    7. Heat about 1/4 - 1/2 inch of cooking oil in a pan or skillet.
    8. Fry the cakes until bread crumbs turn brown.
    9. Serve with salsa, sour cream, and tortillas.
