Ingredients

  • 1 cup - black eyed peas (lobia)
  • 1/2 - onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves - garlic, crushed
  • 1-inch piece - ginger, crushed
  • 3 or 4 - dry red chillies
  • 1 tbsp - cumin (jeera)
  • 1 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - hing (asafoetida)
  • 1/2 bunch - cilantro/coriander leaves

How to Make Black Eyed Peas (Lobhia) Pancake

  • Soak lobia for over 16 hours (change the water once in between). The next day, wash and drain the lobia and remove the skin.
  • Grind lobhia, onion, cilantro, red chilli, jeera, garlic and ginger into a paste.
  • Add enough water to make it of dosa batter consistency.
  • Add the red chilli powder, turmeric powder, hing and salt. Mix well.
  • You can make the pancakes right away or even keep it overnight and use it the following day.
  • Make sure you drop a 1 tsp of oil and then make the pancake else it gets a little untidy even if you are using a non-stick dish.
