Ingredients

  • 1 cup - black eyed peas (lobia)
  • 1/2 - onion, chopped
  • 2 Cloves - garlic, crushed
  • 1-inch piece - ginger, crushed
  • 3 or 4 - dry Red Chillies
  • 1 tbsp - cumin (jeera)
  • 1 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - Red Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Hing (asafoetida)
  • 1/2 bunch - cilantro/coriander leaves
  • How to Make Black Eyed Peas (Lobhia) Pancake:

    1. Soak lobia for over 16 hours (change the water once in between). The next day, wash and drain the lobia and remove the skin.
    2. Grind lobhia, onion, cilantro, red chilli, jeera, garlic and ginger into a paste.
    3. Add enough water to make it of dosa batter consistency.
    4. Add the red chilli powder, turmeric powder, hing and salt. Mix well.
    5. You can make the pancakes right away or even keep it overnight and use it the following day.
    6. Make sure you drop a 1 tsp of oil and then make the pancake else it gets a little untidy even if you are using a non-stick dish.
