  • 1.5 lb - bottle gourd, finely chopped using a vegetable grater
  • 1 - fish head, preferably Rohu, cut into half
  • 1 - medium-sized onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp - turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • Oil as required
  • a few coriander leaves, finely chopped

How to Make Bottle Gourd with Fish Head

  • Marinade the fish head with salt and a pinch of turmeric and keep aside.
  • In the meantime, chop the bottle gourd into thin horizontal slits breadthwise using a vegetable grater.
  • Finely chop the onion.
  • In a shallow non-stick skillet, fry the fish head to light golden brown colour on both sides and keep aside.
  • Heat a tbsp of oil in a utensil and add the cumin seeds.
  • Add the chopped onion and the fish head and fry well for 2-3 minutes. (Break the Fish head into pieces while frying).
  • Add the chopped bottle gourd, turmeric powder and salt and mix well. Cover and cook on low heat until the fish is fully cooked.
  • Add the chopped coriander leaves, mix well and remove from the flame.
  • Enjoy with rice or chappati.
