  • 1 pound - white bread
  • 6 - potatoes, large size
  • 6 - white onions, medium size
  • 1 cup - ghee or cooking oil
  • 1/2 tsp - black mustard seeds
  • 6 - green chillies, chopped finely
  • 3 - red chillies, dried, broken
  • 1 bunch - cilantro leaves
  • 2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 2 sprigs - curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp - lemon juice
  • salt to taste

How to Make Bread Upma with Potatoes

  • Cut bread into small pieces. Keep aside.
  • Wash and boil potatoes in cold water. Remove the skins and mash or cut into small pieces.
  • Chop onions, green chillies, cilantro leaves and curry leaves.
  • Heat oil or ghee in a deep frying pan.
  • Add mustard seeds, red chillies, green chillies, curry leaves, chopped onions, salt and turmeric powder.
  • Stir briskly for about 2 or 3 minutes.
  • Then add mashed potatoes and bread pieces.
  • Mix well and remove from fire.
  • Garnish with chopped cilantro and pour more hot ghee.
  • Serve hot with tamarind sauce or red chilli sauce or tomato ketchup.
