Brinjal Kothamalli Thokku is a delicious Indian side dish that is made easily with just a few ingredients. 'Thokku' is generally a traditional, South Indian side dish that has many variations to it.

The tasty combo of brinjal and coriander leaves imparts an aromatic flavour along with desi spices. Along with this, nutritious urad dal is also added to make the dish healthy. This thokku tastes best with idli, chapathi and rice.

  • Brinjal-1 (big size)
  • Mustard-1/2 tsp
  • Urad Dal-1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder-1/2 tsp
  • Fenugreek-1/2 tsp
  • Red Chilli-2
  • Coriander Leaves-1/4 bunch
  • Oil-1 tsp
  • Salt-to taste
  • How to Make Brinjal Kothamalli Thokku :

    1. Roast brinjal on gas stove by smearing some oil on the surface. Once roasted, cool it down and peel off the skin.
    2. In a pan, add oil, mustard, urad dal, red chilli, turmeric powder and fenugreek seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
    3. In a mixing blender, add this mixture along with salt. Add roasted and peeled brinjal and grind to a paste. This can be served with idli, dosa, chapathi and rice.
