Ingredients

  • 1 - large Brinjal
  • 1/2 - chopped Onion
  • 1/2 tsp - sambar powder
  • 1/4 tsp - mustard
  • 1/2 tsp - Urad Dal
  • 1/4 tsp - Toor Dal
  • 4 - dry chillies
  • Turmeric - a pinch
  • Salt - to taste
  • 1/2 cup - Tamarind extract
  • 1 tbsp - oil
  • 4-5 - Curry leaves
  • How to Make Brinjal Rasavangi and Brinjal Gothsu:

    1. Cut brinjal into pieces and fry in 1 tsp of oil. Then pour tamarind water and boil with 1/2 tsp salt and a pinch turmeric powder
    2. Boil 1/4 cup toor dal
    3. In a pan heat little oil and fry a tsp channa dal, 2 tsp coriander, red chilli and 1 tbsp coconut
    4. Grind into a fine powder in a mixi
    5. Then add the powder and dal into boiled brinjal and pour enough water to get the required consistency
    6. Kathrikai Gothsu Method:
    7. Take one big brinjal and heat directly in the gas on all sides and peel off the skin
    8. Then mash the brinjal and pour it in a pan with tamarind extract
    9. Add 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp chilli powder, a pinch of jaggery and then boil it for 5- 10 mins
    10. And finally season it with mustard seeds
    11. Serve.
