  • 2 cups Rice (preferably basmati Rice)
  • 1 big Onion (finely vertically sliced)
  • 5 green Cardamoms
  • 1 small stick Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp - Red Chilli powder
  • 4 cups - water
  • 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 4 to 5 tbsp - oil
  • 2 Bay Leaves
  • 3 Cloves
  • salt to taste
  • How to Make Brown Rice:

    1. Pick, wash and soak the rice in water for 30 minutes.
    2. Heat oil in a heavy bottom vessel.
    3. Add cumin seeds, cloves, cardamoms, cinnamon and bay leaves.
    4. Fry for a few seconds and add the sliced onions.
    5. Fry the onions on a low flame till golden brown.
    6. Once the onions turn golden, add red chillie powder and fry for a minute.
    7. Add the soaked rice (water discarded) and mix well.
    8. Add 4 cups water, salt to taste and mix once. Give it a boil.
    9. After the first boil simmer. Cover with a lid.
    10. Mix once or twice while the rice is being cooked.
    11. Cook till the rice is done. Serve hot.
