Ingredients

  • Brussels sprouts - 15
  • Toor dal- 1 cup
  • Sambhar powder - 2 tsps
  • Chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Brown Sugar - 1/4 tsp
  • Tamarind paste - 1 tsp
  • Water - 3 cups
  • Curry Leaves - 5
  • Chopped coriander -2 tsps
  • A pinch - turmeric
  • Salt to taste
  • For seasoning:
  • Oil - 3 tsps
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin - 1/2 tsp

How to Make Brussels Sprouts Sambhar

  • Clean and cut the Brussels sprouts at the stem ends and leave them all in a round shape.
  • Pressure cook toor dal and sprouts by pouring 3 cups of water and adding turmeric.
  • Cook for 2 or 3 whistles.
  • Heat some oil
  • Then add all other seasonings to it.
  • When they splutter, add the boiled toor dal with Brussels sprouts.
  • Add sambhar powder, chilli powder, brown sugar, curry leaves.
  • Add more water if required and stir to mix all.
  • Make sure sprouts are not mashed while stirring.
  • Once it starts boiling, add tamarind paste and salt.
  • Finally add chopped coriander
  • Serve with rice, dosa or idli.
