Ingredients

  • Brussels sprouts - 15
  • Toor dal- 1 cup
  • Sambhar powder - 2 tsps
  • Chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Brown sugar - 1/4 tsp
  • Tamarind paste - 1 tsp
  • Water - 3 cups
  • Curry leaves - 5
  • Chopped coriander -2 tsps
  • A pinch - Turmeric
  • Salt to taste
  • For seasoning:
  • Oil - 3 tsps
  • Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin - 1/2 tsp
  • How to Make Brussels Sprouts Sambhar:

    1. Clean and cut the Brussels sprouts at the stem ends and leave them all in a round shape.
    2. Pressure cook toor dal and sprouts by pouring 3 cups of water and adding turmeric.
    3. Cook for 2 or 3 whistles.
    4. Heat some oil
    5. Then add all other seasonings to it.
    6. When they splutter, add the boiled toor dal with Brussels sprouts.
    7. Add sambhar powder, chilli powder, brown sugar, curry leaves.
    8. Add more water if required and stir to mix all.
    9. Make sure sprouts are not mashed while stirring.
    10. Once it starts boiling, add tamarind paste and salt.
    11. Finally add chopped coriander
    12. Serve with rice, dosa or idli.
