  • 3/4 cup - white sugar
  • 2 - egg yolks
  • 6 - egg whites
  • 1.75 cups - water
  • 1 tin - low-fat sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 tsp - vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch - salt

How to Make Caramel Glazed Flan

  • Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a heavy skillet over medium-low heat, cook and stir the sugar until it melts and is light brown.
  • Pour the sugar into a 9-inch round baking dish carefully, tilting the dish to coat the bottom completely.
  • In a medium-sized bowl, beat the egg yolks and whites. Stir in water, condensed milk, vanilla and salt until smooth.
  • Pour the egg mixture into the prepared dish. Line a roasting pan with a damp kitchen towel.
  • Place the baking dish on the towel inside the roasting pan. Now place the roasting pan on the oven rack.
  • Fill the roasting pan with boiling water to reach halfway up the sides of the baking dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for an hour, until the centre is just set (still a bit jiggly).
  • Remove the dish to a wire rack to cool for an hour, then refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
  • To unmold, run a knife around the edge of the pan and invert onto a rimmed serving platter.
