Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup - moong dal
  • 1 cup - Cauliflower leaves, chopped finely
  • 1 - onion, chopped
  • 1 - tomato, crushed
  • 2 - green chillies, slit opened
  • 1 tsp - sambar powder
  • 1 tsp - Lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 2 - dry Red Chillies
  • 1/4 tsp - Asafoetida powder
  • Few - Curry leaves
  • As required - oil
  • To taste - salt
  • How to Make Cauliflower Leaves Dal:

    1. Soak the moong dal with 2 cups of water for an hour.
    2. Cook the moong dal, with the soaked water and turmeric powder, in a microwave oven, on high for 15 minutes (stir in twice).
    3. Mash nicely and keep aside.
    4. In another microwave safe bowl, heat enough oil for 1 minute in high. Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dry red chillies, asafoetida powder and curry leaves. Cook for 3 minutes in high.
    5. Add the chopped onions, crushed tomatoes, salt and cook for 5 minutes in high (stir in twice).
    6. Add the already chopped cauliflower leaves to the cooked vegetables and cook for 5 minutes (stir in twice).
    7. Finally add the cooked and mashed dal, to the vegetables, with sambar powder, salt, slit opened green chillies. Cook again for 5 minutes.
    8. Finally, add the lemon juice and give a stir.
    9. Serve with rotis or rice.
