  • 3 cups - cauliflower, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup - grated Coconut
  • 1 cup - tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp - sambar powder
  • 3 tbsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp - black gram (urad) dal
  • 2 - dry red chillies, broken into pieces
  • salt to taste
  • How to Make Cauliflower Palya:

    1. Grind coconut and tomato coarsely, without adding water.
    2. Mix turmeric and sambar powder with this.
    3. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard and cumin seeds and let it splutter.
    4. Then add dal and chillies and fry.
    5. When the dal turns light brown, add cauliflower and salt.
    6. Cook covered on low heat till the cauliflower is done. (Sprinkle some water if needed).
    7. Add the ground paste and cook on low heat till the raw smell of masala goes.
    8. Increase the heat and cook till the excess moisture is absorbed and the palya is almost dry. Keep stirring constantly.
    9. Serve hot as part of a traditional meal or with chapathi.
