Ingredients

  • 3 cups - cauliflower, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup - grated Coconut
  • 1 cup - tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp - sambar powder
  • 3 tbsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp - black gram (urad) dal
  • 2 - dry red chillies, broken into pieces
  • salt to taste

How to Make Cauliflower Palya

  • Grind coconut and tomato coarsely, without adding water.
  • Mix turmeric and sambar powder with this.
  • Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard and cumin seeds and let it splutter.
  • Then add dal and chillies and fry.
  • When the dal turns light brown, add cauliflower and salt.
  • Cook covered on low heat till the cauliflower is done. (Sprinkle some water if needed).
  • Add the ground paste and cook on low heat till the raw smell of masala goes.
  • Increase the heat and cook till the excess moisture is absorbed and the palya is almost dry. Keep stirring constantly.
  • Serve hot as part of a traditional meal or with chapathi.
