  • 3 - chopped green chillies
  • 1 - chopped onion (medium size)
  • 1 tbsp - chopped ginger & garlic
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp -turmeric powder
  • red chilli powder (according to your taste)
  • 1 pinch - sugar
  • salt
  • 2 tsp - oil

How to Make Channa Dal Dhonka

  • Take channa dal and soak it for at least 2 hours.
  • Then wash the dal and put it in a mixer.
  • Add a little bit of water for making a smooth paste.
  • Now take a kadai on low flame and add 2 tsp oil.
  • After heating the oil, add cumin seeds. When it starts to pop, add chopped onion, green chillies, ginger and garlic and cook it for a few seconds.
  • Add dal paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and sugar and stir it until the paste doesn't stick to the kadai.
  • Take out the dal paste and transfer on to a flat tray. Smoothen it out so that there are no bumps. Keep it in a freezer & cool it down.
  • After 15-20 minutes take the tray out of the freezer. Cut the dal paste into pieces.
  • Now take a deep frying pan, put enough oil for deep frying & keep it on a medium flame. When oil is ready, fry the pieces carefully till golden brown.
  • Serve hot with sauce/ chutney.
