Ingredients

  • 2 cans - chickpeas, drained
  • 1 - large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 - tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 - green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp - ginger-garlic paste
  • 4 tbsp - Tomato puree
  • 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp - Red Chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - coriander powder
  • 1 tsp - cumin powder
  • 3 tbsp - oil
  • 4 tbsp - Coconut Milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Chopped coriander - to garnish
  • How to Make Chatpata Channa Masala:

    1. Sautee cumin seeds in hot oil till they start to pop.
    2. Add onions and green chillies and fry till tender.
    3. Add the tomatoes, ginger-garlic paste, tomato puree, salt and all the spices. Cook till tomatoes soften.
    4. Add about a cup of water, bring it to a boil and add coconut milk.
    5. Next, add the chickpeas.
    6. Cook covered on medium-heat for about 20-30 minutes till the chickpeas are done.
    7. Mash a spoonful of chickpeas to thicken the gravy.
    8. Garnish with fresh coriander. Serve hot with puris or parathas.
