Ingredients

  • 2 cans - chickpeas, drained
  • 1 - large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 - tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 - green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp - ginger-garlic paste
  • 4 tbsp - tomato puree
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - coriander powder
  • 1 tsp - cumin powder
  • 3 tbsp - oil
  • 4 tbsp - coconut milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Chopped coriander - to garnish

How to Make Chatpata Channa Masala

  • Sautee cumin seeds in hot oil till they start to pop.
  • Add onions and green chillies and fry till tender.
  • Add the tomatoes, ginger-garlic paste, tomato puree, salt and all the spices. Cook till tomatoes soften.
  • Add about a cup of water, bring it to a boil and add coconut milk.
  • Next, add the chickpeas.
  • Cook covered on medium-heat for about 20-30 minutes till the chickpeas are done.
  • Mash a spoonful of chickpeas to thicken the gravy.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander. Serve hot with puris or parathas.
