  • 250 gms plain flour
  • 1 tsp Yeast
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp fresh ground pepper
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 cup warm Milk
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3/4 cup grated cheese (processed or cooking)
  • 1/2 tsp Poppy Seeds
  • oil for greasing
  • Milk for brushing
  • How to Make Cheesy Peppery Slices:

    1. Mix milk, sugar, water and warm them well.
    2. Crush and add yeast, cover and keep it aside for 20 minutes.
    3. It will become very frothy and will increase in volume.
    4. Mix together flour, salt, pepper and make a dent in the centre.
    5. Add oil, yeast mixture, half cup cheese and mix slowly till it is properly incorporated.
    6. Knead well, for 4-5 minutes.
    7. Place it in a large bowl and cover it. Keep aside for 1 hour.
    8. Use greased hands to remove the dough.
    9. Punch and knead again for 5 minutes or till it gets very smooth.
    10. Grease a rectangular bread tin, line it with butter paper.
    11. Grease the butter paper too.
    12. Divide the dough into 2 portions.
    13. Make 8-9 inch long rolls.
    14. Hold one end of each together.
    15. Twist them, holding an end intact.
    16. Finish it till you reach the base.
    17. Grease well and place it on the inside prepared tin.
    18. Keep it aside for 30 minutes.
    19. Preheat the oven for 10 minutes at 200 degrees C.
    20. Place the tin on the central rack and bake for 18-20 minutes.
    21. After 10 minutes, remove, brush some milk, sprinkle poppy seeds and remaining cheese.
    22. Return to the oven and finish baking.
    23. Remove it and cool for 2 minutes.
    24. Invert and check.
    25. If the base is not baked, return to oven inverted for 2 minutes.
    26. Cool it a little, before slicing it with a sharp bread knife into slices.
    27. Serve warm with butter or marmalade.
