  • 200 gms - tender yam, peeled, cubed
  • 1/2 cup - coconut, grated
  • 1 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp - urad dal
  • 1/4 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp - oil
  • 1 tbsp - grated coconut for garnish
  • pepper powder to taste
  • salt to taste

How to Make Chena Errisery

  • Cut yam, soak it in salted water in which half of the turmeric has been added.
  • Soak for half an hour, drain and add to 1.5 cups of fresh water.
  • Add coconut and the remaining turmeric, boil it till cubes become soft.
  • Add chilly powder, salt, pepper and curry leaves.
  • Heat oil in a small pan, add seeds, dal and allow it to splutter.
  • Add it to the vegetables, stir it and pour it into a serving dish.
  • Garnish with grated coconut.
  • Serve hot with rice or chapathi.
