Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup - beans, brinjal, potatoes, amaranth stems and drumstick
  • 1/2 cup - red gram dal (pressure cooked with water)
  • 1 - coconut (grind and extract milk)
  • 1/2 tsp - sambar powder
  • 2 - red chillies
  • 8 - black pepper
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 2 tsp - black gram dal
  • 1 tsp - rice flour
  • 1/4 tsp - turmeric powder
  • A pinch - asafoetida
  • 1/4 cup - curry leaves
  • 1/4 cup - coriander leaves
  • 2 tsp - oil
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Coconut Milk Sambar

  • Heat oil and temper mustard seeds, asafoetida, black gram dal, red chillies and black pepper.
  • Add beans and other vegetables and turmeric powder, sambar powder, salt and enough water to cook the vegetables.
  • When the vegetables are cooked, add cooked red gram dal.
  • Mix and boil well
  • Pour coconut milk and boil for 2 mins.
  • Garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves.
