  • Bengal Gram (channa) dal - 1.25 cup
  • oil - 3 tbsp
  • dry Coconut (copra) - 1, grated
  • dried red chilies - 15 to 20
  • Curry leaves - 1 cup, heaped
  • asafetida - ½ tsp
  • Tamarind - 1.5 cm ball
  • salt to taste
  • How to Make Curry leaf Chutney Powder:

    1. Dry roast the dal, cool and powder.
    2. Heat 2 tbsp of oil and fry dry coconut till brown.
    3. Heat remaining oil and fry chilies sand remove.
    4. Add curry leaves to the remaining oil in the pan, fry till crisp.
    5. Add asafoetida, mix well and remove.
    6. Combine the copra, chilies, curry leaves and asafoetida together.
    7. Break up the tamarind into tiny pieces and add to this mixture.
    8. Powder these together coarsely and mix with the dal powder.
    9. Add salt, mix well and store in a clean and dry bottle.
