Ingredients

  • moong (green gram) dal - 1/2 cup
  • Ghee - 2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 10 to 15
  • black pepper Corns - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • dried red chilies - 2
  • asafetida - 1/2 tsp
  • Tamarind size of a Lime
  • salt to taste
  • How to Make Curry Leaf Dal Shorba:

    1. Cook moong dal with 1 cup of water till soft and mash.
    2. Soak tamarind in one cup of water and extract the juice.
    3. Heat ghee in a small fry pan.
    4. Roast pepper corns, cumin, red chilies, asafoetida and curry leaves.
    5. Cool and grind to a paste.
    6. Add 3 cups of water to tamarind juice.
    7. Simmer for 10 minutes.
    8. Add mashed dal, ground paste and salt.
    9. Simmer for 5 more minutes.Serve topped with fried curry leaves.
    10. Serve hot.
