Ingredients

  • moong (green gram) dal - 1/2 cup
  • ghee - 2 tbsp
  • curry leaves - 10 to 15
  • black pepper corns - 1/2 tsp
  • cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • dried red chilies - 2
  • asafetida - 1/2 tsp
  • tamarind size of a lime
  • salt to taste

How to Make Curry Leaf Dal Shorba

  • Cook moong dal with 1 cup of water till soft and mash.
  • Soak tamarind in one cup of water and extract the juice.
  • Heat ghee in a small fry pan.
  • Roast pepper corns, cumin, red chilies, asafoetida and curry leaves.
  • Cool and grind to a paste.
  • Add 3 cups of water to tamarind juice.
  • Simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Add mashed dal, ground paste and salt.
  • Simmer for 5 more minutes.Serve topped with fried curry leaves.
  • Serve hot.
