Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup - Channa dal
  • 1/2 cup - bread crumbs
  • 3 - medium Potatoes
  • 1 - medium Onion
  • 1/2 cup - Fenugreek leaves
  • 5 to 6 flakes - Garlic
  • 3 to 4 - Green chillies
  • 1 tsp - chopped Ginger
  • 1 tsp - Lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp - oil
  • Asafoetida and Turmeric for seasoning
  • Mustard
  • Sugar to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Dal-batata vada:

    1. Soak the channa dal for 5-6 hours and grind it coarsely.
    2. Also grind chillies, garlic and ginger coarsely
    3. Heat oil and splutter mustard to it
    4. When it starts to splutter, add a pinch of asafoetida, turmeric and the chilli-garlic masala and fry it for a little while
    5. Add onion and fry it for a couple of minutes
    6. Add chopped fenugreek leaves and fry it for 2 minutes
    7. Add chopped potatoes, salt, sugar and lemon juice and mix it well and keep it aside
    8. Mix ground channa dal with batata bhaji
    9. Make some balls, coat them with bread crumbs and fry it in oil until it is golden in colour
