  • 1/2 cup - Bengal gram dal
  • 1/2 cup - urad dal
  • Curry leaves - a few
  • 5-6 red chillies
  • Tamarind - lemon sized
  • Coriander leaves - a few sprigs
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • 1/2 cup - freshly grated coconut
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp - oil to fry

How to Make Dal Chutney

  • Heat oil in a kadai, add channa dal, urad dal, curry leaves, coriander, asafoetida, red chillies and tamarind and fry till golden brown.
  • Allow to cool, add coconut and salt and grind in a blender with oil.
  • Serve with hot rice or roti.
